How Fulfillment by Amazon Works

Fulfillment by Amazon (also known as FBA or FBA Prime) is a service of Amazon that lets sellers store their products inventory in the Amazon warehouse, thus removing the necessity for fulfillment centers. The seller receives a commission on every order placed through their listing.

The sellers who are accepted in FBA can choose the duration of time for which they are willing to accept orders before they become fulfilled. Sellers who are accepted in FBA are offered limited access to reserve certain products. They can choose whether they want to be an approved seller (also referred to as APS) or a busy seller (also referred to as BPS).

An approved seller is in charge of fulfilling the orders for every product listed. Rather than dealing with shipping the orders themselves, an approved seller appoints one of Amazon’s fulfillment centers to fulfill the order directly.

A busy seller is someone reselling products via the Amazon platform. They are limited with the number of orders they can take.

A seller accepts orders for a fixed duration. When the seller accepts an order from a customer, they fulfill (or fulfill and ship) the order from the inventory stored in their Fulfillment Center.

Amazon collects a pre-determined percentage of the order price as a commission for a seller’s services. Amazon fulfills the order. The seller is responsible for delivering the item to the customer.

Who Fulfillment by Amazon is Right For

Online retailers can use Fulfillment by Amazon to help them manage their inventory, lower their shipping costs, and eBay their merchandise. Amazon sends potential buyers to your website or marketplace page, which is imported into the Amazon system. Amazon then ships the product directly to the customer, cutting out the work required for inventory, shipping, and order management. Of course, Fulfillment by Amazon doesn’t come cheap, and the ongoing fees can be a big cost of running an online business.
